Does wine taste better while wearing running shoes? Some certainly think so. Wine lovers recently embraced the 2024 harvest season by joining the much-anticipated Marathon du Médoc, an annual event that takes runners through the picturesque vineyards of the historic Médoc appellation.

Located on the Left Bank of the Garonne River, Médoc is renowned for its bold red wine blends dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Established in 1985, this marathon has captivated participants with its distinctive festivities. In its 38th edition this year, the event saw a record 8,500 runners from over 70 nationalities come together for an unforgettable experience!

The race offers more than just running. Along the course, you’ll find musical interludes with orchestras, wine tasting stations, and food stops featuring local specialties like oysters and steak. Participants are encouraged to dress up in themed costumes, adding to the event’s lively atmosphere.

Each year, the festivities kick off the Friday before the race with a dinner featuring music, pasta and Médoc wines. After the marathon, participants can relax with a scenic morning walk through the very vineyards they raced through the day before. This leisurely stroll provides a perfect opportunity to reflect on the run while enjoying live bands and the landscapes of the Médoc.

Runners and wine lovers alike can register for next year’s marathon by March 2025 at this link.
